About Slabaugh’s

Company & Service Area

Who owns and operates Slabaugh’s Storage Barns?

Glen Slabaugh founded the company in 1995 and continues to own and operate it today. Slabaugh’s Storage Barns is family-owned and has intentionally remained a small, personal operation.

Where are the storage barns manufactured?

Every building is constructed from start to finish at the Slabaugh’s Storage Barns shop in Shipshewana, Indiana. The entire building process is completed in-house.

What areas do you serve?

Slabaugh’s serves customers throughout Northern Indiana, Southern Michigan, Illinois, and Ohio. Contact the shop to discuss delivery availability and pricing for your location.

Who do you build for?

Everyday homeowners make up most of the customer base, but Slabaugh’s also builds for farmers, businesses, contractors, churches, cabin owners, and others. Everyone is welcome.

What values guide the company?

Honesty, integrity, and providing the best possible value guide every project. Glen’s goal is to build the best shed possible for each customer’s needs and help them feel confident in their choice.

Finding the Right Fit

Buildings & Uses

Which styles offer the most usable storage space?

A-frame, Quaker, and Gambrel styles provide the most usable storage space and are also strong choices when overhead loft storage is important.

Which building styles work best for workshops or larger equipment?

A-frame and Quaker buildings work especially well as workshops. A-Frame Garage and Gambrel Garage styles provide wider access for riding mowers, compact tractors, UTVs, ATVs, dirt bikes, and similar property equipment.

What sizes can you build?

The smallest building regularly constructed is 8 × 8 feet. The largest portable building that can be constructed and delivered is 14 × 36 feet. Custom sizes are available within those general limits.

Do you build garages and specialty structures?

Yes. In addition to storage barns and garages, Slabaugh’s can build cabins, hunting cabins, offices, playhouses, greenhouses, workshops, pool houses, hobby rooms, retail spaces, concession buildings, and other specialty structures.

Do you keep finished buildings in stock?

Yes, but inventory is limited because most buildings are made to order. A smaller selection of completed buildings is generally available on the lot, and inventory changes regularly.

Built to Last

Construction & Materials

What materials are used to build a Slabaugh storage barn?

Buildings are constructed with premium-grade lumber and plywood. Wall framing is premium-grade 2 × 4 lumber placed 16 inches on center, and custom trusses are also made from premium-grade 2 × 4 lumber.

Do you use OSB or pressed-board products?

No. Slabaugh’s intentionally does not use OSB or other pressed-board products. Plywood is used for the floor system and throughout the building where sheet material is required.

What roofing materials are available?

Metal roofing and shingles are available, including architectural shingles. A range of roof pitches can be built, and vents are included as standard equipment.

What door options are available?

Options include garage doors, prehung fiberglass doors, and custom-built wooden doors. Custom wooden doors are manufactured in-house.

What window options are available?

Available options include aluminum windows, insulated vinyl windows, and transom windows. Operable, screened, insulated, and single-pane configurations are available.

How are buildings painted or stained?

Three coats of paint or stain are applied before delivery, helping create a finished building that is ready for your property.

What warranties apply to exterior materials?

Barn paint includes a 15-year fade warranty. Siding and trim include a 50-year warranty, shingles include a lifetime warranty, and metal roofing includes a 40-year finish warranty.

Made for Your Property

Can I choose vinyl or wood siding?

Yes. All building styles can be ordered with either vinyl or wood siding. Metal roofing is available, but metal siding is not.

Can I bring my own plans or inspiration photos?

Yes. Customers may provide plans, drawings, or inspiration photos. Final construction details are subject to Glen’s professional judgment and should be discussed before the project is approved.

What can these buildings be used for besides storage?

Popular uses include workshops, home offices, hobby rooms, pool houses, she sheds, hunting cabins, firewood storage, farm-equipment storage, and small-business or concession spaces.
